The Botín Foundation has commissioned Genoese architect Renzo Piano, author of symbolic buildings as the Pompidou in Paris, to build the Botín Art Centre, a construction covered with white ceramic and supported by columns which will look like a pile dwelling reflecting the special light of the Bay of Santander and blending perfectly with its landscape. The building will lean over the sea with a large terrace and a diving board. Inside, there will be spaces for the exhibition of works of art but also training rooms. The project includes an outdoor amphitheatre for 2,000 people and a large square too. The Botín Art Centre is expected to be inaugurated in June 1, 2017, creating a citizen space and recovering the direct contact with the sea of an important part of the city.
